The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club

What a treat to spend this afternoon with “The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club.” During my delightful visit, I learned that this group of ladies always stays at exactly 12 members . . . that’s the way it’s been for 88 years! Their historian, the lovely Eva Anne, showed me the scrapbook of news articles they’ve saved and logs of who hosted which meeting and when. They even have a book from the 1940s that shows the hostesses of the club at that time. Their manner in choosing books is interesting as well. Since there are 12 members, they each choose a book and secure a copy. Then, starting in January, they each read one book, and then pass the book around, so by the time the year ends, all 12 members have read the same 12 books - just during different months. I am very honored that On the Eighteenth of May is one of their 12 for 2022, along with a couple from Kristin Hannah and other great authors! Thank you Kathy Johnston, President Beth Gattis, and all of the lovely ladies for a fun day together!

Historian Eva Anne teaches me all about the club!

The lovely Kathy Johnston, who was kind enough to invite me to meet the club this afternoon! This pic is from our time together at the Belmont Historical Society Living History Day!

What a well-organized group! And here’s their chart of their chosen books for 2022, and who’s assigned to read what each month.

One of the first books read by this book club back in the 1930s! They still carry it in their archives!

A list of the books and hostesses for the year 1948!

Yes . . . it was as delicious as it looks! Thank you, ladies!
